Securities worth 35.6bn lei registered in Central Securities Depository

The single Central Securities Depository (CSD) at the end of last year included 298.7 million state securities and National Bank of Moldova certificates whose nominal value was 35.6 billion lei, shows a NBM report on the evolution of the infrastructure of the financial market in Moldova in 2020 that is quoted by IPN.

There were also registered 890.5 million corporate securities, 888.2 million of which were ordinary shares, while 2.3 million were preference shares. The total value of the corporate securities was 11.9 billion lei and the ordinary shares accounted for 99.9% of this value.

Twenty participants were registered at the end of 2020 in the CSD system that became operational in July 2018. These included the National Bank of Moldova, 11 licensed banks of the NBM, the Bank Deposits Guarantee Fund and seven nonbank investment companies. There were also recorded 201 issuers – the NBM, the Ministry of Finance and 199 joint stock companies.

According to the central bank, four incidents were witnessed in the CSD system last yearend, but these didn’t disrupt the activity of the system.
