The goal of the creation of the waste management center in Stăuceni is to develop a centralized was storage and sorting system. According to secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment Petru Tătaru, they aim to build a modern waste management platform so as to prevent the appearance of unauthorized waste dumps, IPN reports.
Earlier, presidential adviser on environmental issues Iuliana Cantaragiu said the waste management center in Stăuceni village will enable the people from the municipality of Chisinau and also from the districts of Criuleni, Dubăsari, Strășeni, Anenii Noi, Hâncești, Ialoveni to benefit from a civilized waste management service. Petru Tătaru noted the center will be outfitted with modern technologies that will enable to sort waste.
“Through the facility in Stăuceni, we try to develop a platform to persuade the localities to store waste in a centralized way and, respectively, not to allow the number of unauthorized waste dumps in Chisinau and close to it to increase in number. We aim to implement a modern sorting mechanism, with up-to-date technologies, so that the waste is not scattered,” the secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment stated in the program “Common Objective” on TVR Moldova channel.
According to the official, the Government aims to identify and liquidate all the waste dumps that do not meet the environmental requirements until 2027.
“The national waste management program envisions the development, until 2027, of an integrated waste management system that would be efficient from economic viewpoint and would respect the basic rights of each citizen. We signed an agreement with the EBRD and platforms will be built to manage waste. We aim to make progress in waste sorting and the central points will collect waste from a number of localities so that we do not allow the number of unauthroiszed waste dumps to grow. We will sort waste and will identify waste that can be recycled so that we have a circular economy and this way ensure transition to the green economy,” explained Petru Tătaru.
On February 2, Parliament ratified the loan agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD lends €25 million to the Moldovan authorities to implement the Moldova Solid Waste Project that will benefit the local public authorities and the people living in the districts of Ungheni, Nisporeni, Călărași, Edineț, Dondușeni, Ocnița, Briceni, Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia and in ATU Gagauzia. The people in these areas will selectively store waste and emphasis will be placed on the green economy transition.
