Second round of voting to take place in Ucrainca

The residents of Ucrainca village of Causeni district will go again to the polls in two weeks. In the first round of the mayoral elections on November 10, none of the three candidates polled the necessary number of votes, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Central Election Commission.

According to the preliminary results, 750 persons of the 1,292 included in the electoral rolls took part in the elections. The voter turnout was 58.05%. Seven ballots were invalidated.

The candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party Ion Crivoi won 336 votes (45.2%), the Communist Party’s candidate Nicolae Banari – 233 votes (31.3 %), while the Democratic Party’s candidate Rodica Odainic - 174 votes (23.4%).

Under the Electoral Code, if none of the candidates gains over half of the votes, a second round of voting is held in two weeks, involving the two candidates who polled the largest number of votes in the first round.

The term of the mayor of Ucrainca Vladimir Iurco ended before time following his resignation. He was elected mayor in the local elections of 2011, in which he ran as an independent.
