A second round of voting is held today, June 28, in 458 settlements of the country where no candidate for mayor polled more than half of the cast votes. The polling places work between 7am and 9pm, IPN reports.

In the first round of the local elections of June 14, mayors were elected in 437 settlements. The Liberal Democratic Party ranks first by the number of posts of mayor won – over 180. The Democratic Party comes second with almost 150 mayors. The Party of Communists won the mayoral elections in 30 settlements, the Party of Socialists – in over 20, the Liberal Party – in 13, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” – in seven, the Political Party “Our Party” – in two, while the Sociopolitical Movement “Ravnopravie” – in one settlement. In 34 settlements, the elected mayors ran independently.

In ten settlements, the candidates for mayor won 100% of the vote. In all these cases, there was only one candidate written on the ballot.

In Ulmu village of Ialoveni district and in Topala village of Cimislia district, the elections will be rerun because the voter turnout was lower than 25% (in the first village) and because the voting process was interrupted (in the second case). The election results in Ermoclia, Stefan Voda were annulled and a decision in this case is yet to be taken by the court.

In the local general elections of June 14, the voter turnout was 48.95%. For the elections to be validated, the voter turnout in each settlement must be higher than 25%.
