Second child from Floresti who suffered mushroom poisoning dies

The eight-year-old girl who got poisoned after eating mushrooms together with her family died in the hospital after her state that was critical worsened in the afternoon of July 16. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokesman for the Mother and Child Institute Maxim Cazacu.

In the evening of July 12, the four-year-old brother of the girl died from mushroom poisoning after being in a coma for several days. The children’s mother is now at the Saint Trinity Hospital in Chisinau, while the father refused to be hospitalized as he said he felt better.

Contacted by IPN, the spokeswoman for the Saint Trinity Hospital Alina Siroshenko said the woman’s state is medium grave, but she is recovering. The woman receives treatment, is conscious, can move and eat by herself, but it is too early to say when she will be discharged.

A week ago, the four members of the family from Floresti district were taken to the hospital with poisoning after they ate mushrooms they picked in the forest.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the 41 cases of mushroom poisoning recorded so far this year involved 39 persons from the districts of Floresti, Donduseni, Orhei and from Chisinau. Seven of these were children.
