Nine exotic birds were found in a train running on the Chisinau – Moscow route, at the Valcinet checkpoint. They were conveyed in three cages without accompanying documents, IPN reports
According to press officer of the Border Police Daniela Manzatu, the birds were to be taken out of Moldova. The person who transported them was the 23-year-old conductor, who is a Moldovan citizen. He said the birds didn’t belong to him. He was only to transmit them to an individual in Moscow.
Until all the circumstances are elucidated, the birds, whose species is not yet know, will remain at the Chisinau Zoological Garden.
This is the second attempt to smuggle exotic birds over the border his week. Several days ago, border police officers discovered 300 parrots brought into Moldova from Ukraine without documents.
