A ban on both industrial and recreational fishing in the Nistru River will be in place from April 15 to June 15. The closure is in sync with similar bans from the Transnistrian de facto authorities and Ukraine.
Dumitru Sobolev, deputy department head at the Environment Agency, said the ban covers all species of fish as well as crayfish. The failure to comply will be punishable by fines plus damages, whose size will depend on the fish species.
Sobolev also said that from April 11 to June 9 a similar ban synchronized with the Romanian authorities will be in place on the Prut River, too.
Fishing in inland rivers like Ialpug or Răut will be prohibited, like in the Nistru, April 15 to June 15. There are also areas where fishing is not allowed all the year round.
