The searches at a pond in Fârlădeni village of Anenii Noi district, where unidentified fragments were found on Wednesday, were resumed on Thursday morning. A technical-explosive team of the Ministry of the Interior and specialists of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations are working at the scene. The bomb squad of the National Army wasn’t called out.
Contacted by IPN for details, Olivia Melnic, senior consultant of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of the Interior, said the authorities on Wednesday were informed about the presence of unidentified fragments in a local pond in Fârlădeni. The origin of those elements hasn’t been yet established.
“The perimeter was encircled and examinations are being carried out. Additional details will be provided when the investigation at the scene makes headway,” stated Olivia Melnic.
Press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Liliana Pușcașu told IPN that rescuers travelled to the scene on Wednesday to safely take the identified fragments out of the water. For security reasons, the works were suspended at night and were resumed this morning. Frogmen use additional equipment to help the specialists fulfill their duties.
“We offer the necessary assistance to the responsible bodies in investigating the case. All the necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety of citizens,” stated Liliana Pușcașu.
Initially, the press reported that the found elements were part of a rocket. Ala Diaconu, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense, stated for IPN that the bomb squad of the National Army wasn’t called to the scene.
Acting mayor of Hârbovăț Ivan Croitor said the pond is situated close to Fârlădeni, but is managed by a local from Hârbovăț. The person who takes care of the lake noticed something suspicious on water. The police were called out. The area was surrounded and the citizens do not have access to it.
