Five people were detained after a series of searches carried out by officers of the National Investigation Inspectorate in a scam case. Two other persons will be listed wanted. The suspects defrauded a 68-year-old woman of half a million lei, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, between April and July 2023, through breach of trust, under the pretext that the woman will obtain fabulous profits after she will invest the money she owns, the suspects gained access to the content of her phone. Then, through different methods, they made several transfers from her bank cards, but also raised loans from microcredit companies. The damage they did to her came to almost 500,000 lei.
The investigation officers carried out a number of searches in the cars and homes of seven suspects aged between 21 and 46, from Chisinau municipality and Basarabeasca district. The law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, bank cards, thousands of euros, a BMW, laptops, a hunting gun without documents and dozens of cartridges.
Under the law, scammers risk 8 to 15 years in jail.
