Anticorruption prosecutors on Thursday morning carried out searches at a number of addresses in the capital city, including at public figures of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council.

Contacted by IPN for details, spokeswoman for the National Anticorruption Center Angela Starinski said the measures were taken in a case of appropriation of foreign funds intended for refugees. “The searches covered a number of addresses in the capital city, including of public servants of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council. We will provide details when the operation is completed,” stated the spokeswoman.

In this connection, mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban came with a reaction, saying that his mates “are persecuted and harassed”. “Persons with balaclavas came today to the head of the Health Division Boris Gîlca and other employees as today the Chisinau City Hall holds the largest Social Forum and those from the government don’t like it as many foreign guests are expected to come,” stated the mayor.

He noted that he always maintained that the persons should be summoned to tell what they know, without staging “ordered shows”. “The financial inspection that was recently carried out at Patria LukOil didn’t identify violations and only recommendations were formulated as there is the electronic register that is checked and there are video cameras that are monitored,” said Ion Ceban.

Patria LukOil houses an assistance center for Ukrainian refugees.
