Anticorruption prosecutors in the evening of October 18 carried out searches in the offices of several prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) within the case of the suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is now under house arrest, IPN reports.

When going out of the building of PCCOCS, the prosecutor in charge of the case Victor Furtună told reporters that a number of items were seized during the searches, such as memory cards and documents. These are to be examined.

Victor Furtună refused to give details about the investigated persons and the accusations made against them, invoking the presumption of innocence. He confirmed that the searches were conducted in connection with the criminal case started against the suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo.

Later, another two prosecutors involved in the searches, one of whom presented himself as Petru Ermaliuc, of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, confirmed for the press that searches were carried out in the office of PCCOCS prosecutor Dumitru Răileanu. The two said the procedures were performed in the presence of Răileanu.

They went out of the building with black bags in their hands, saying these contained documents they seized during searches.

No person was arrested as a result of the procedures.

After the searches, prosecutor Mariana Cherpec, who is in charge of media relations at the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told IPN that only the prosecutor who was assigned by the Superior Council of Prosecutors to deal with the case communicates with representatives of the media about this case. The PGO does not become involved and cannot provide details about the conducted searches.
