As a result of searches at former MPs, the police found sums of up to €85,000 whose origin is to be determined. The prosecutors charged the five former MPs who were arrested and the court today is to decide on their remand detention. Another two former MPs are to be questioned, IPN reports.
The searches were carried out on February 2 and 3 within criminal cases started over unjust enrichment following the corrupting of MPs to make them leave the parliamentary groups of which they formed part.
Sums totaling €65,000 and US$30,000 were found in a safe deposit box belonging to a former MP. The same MP had bank deposits of US$20,000 and €85,000, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office has said.
In the house of another former MP, there were found US$34,700 and €44,300. The smallest sum found during searches is of €500.
The five former MPs were indicted for unjust enrichment. When being questioned, the accused made statements, but none of them admitted their guilt.
The anticorruption prosecutors asked for 30-day remand detention for the five. The Ciocana Court is to take decisions today.
