SDP Leader to run for Chisinau Mayor

The leader of the Social Democracy Party Dumitru Braghis will run for Chisinau Mayor General, at the request of an initiative group composed of notorious personalities representing different fields, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy-chairman of Writers Union Arcadie Suceveanu told a news conference on April 24 that the initiative group he represents includes such persons as Elizaveta Onu, retired teacher, former principal of No. 1 School, Gheorghe Andries, Doctor of Sciences, expert in the financial-banking field, Ion Paulenco, People’s artist, soloist at the National Opera, university teacher, chairman of the Organisation “Save the Folklore”, Vadim Troenco, justice major-general , awardee of “Stefan cel Mare” Order, Veronica Mihai, honoured artist of Moldova, member of the group which created the “Folclor” Ensemble, Victor Circov, former general director of JSC “Tractors Factory”, Anatol Marzenco, pop music singer. Suceveanu explained the decision of the initiative group on asking Braghis to run for Mayor, by the necessity to promote a person who is specialised in economics, and the SDP leader, according to the group, proved during his office as Prime-Minister that he knows and can solve the major problems related to the life and wellbeing of the citizens. In this respect, the cited source mentioned that Dumitru Braghis in his recent open letter to Vladimir Voronin proved vast knowledge about the social-political state of affairs of Moldova and the ways to settle the crisis. Suceveanu admits that the second tour of the polls will take place, in which the candidate of the communists and Braghis will participate, the latter having more advantages, such as experience in economics, capacity to speak and convince the public, the fact that he speaks four languages, and is a good manager. For his part, Ion Paulenco said that Braghis is the person who supported the culture, being present at the first presentations of theatrical plays, festivals, cultural-artistic actions, while the majority of present statesmen are far from understanding the “culture”. The initiative group signed a Statement to the residents of Chisinau, entitled “Chisinau residents for Braghis”, by means of which they are advised to make a correct choice on June 3. The statement says that over the last few years, the city of Chisinau confronts with many social and economic problems, which can not be settled by the present municipal authorities. “People in Chisinau suffer because of the corruption and incompetence of the local authorities, of the careless and immoral attitude of City Hall’s employees, who became puppets guided by the communist government”, the Statement reads. The initiative group trusts that only by electing the leader of the SDP Dumitru Braghis Chisinau will have the chance to become a modern city, comfortable for all citizens, where the municipal authorities will serve the interests of everybody.
