Two candidates are contending for the vacant post of judge of the Constitutional Court (CC) on behalf of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), IPN reports.

The SCM said the candidates are Viorica Puica, acting president of the Supreme Court of Justice, and Sergiu Russu, chief prosecutor of the Human Trafficking Combating Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Superior Council of Magistracy set a meeting for this Friday, November 24. The agenda of the meeting includes the selection of a candidate for the post of Constitutional Court judge.

The Constitutional Court consists of six judges who are named for a six-year term. Two of the judges are designated by Parliament, two by the Government and two by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The office of a judge named by the SCM remained vacant following the death of Eduard Ababei in January 2021.
