The seventh Scientist of the Year Gala of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova took place on December 27 in the evening. Academician Andrei Esanu, Doctor Habilitate of History, and academician Mihai Cimpoi, Doctor Habilitate of Philology, were named the best scientists of 2010. The event was organized in partnership with the Edelweiss Foundation, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Foundation's Public Relations Department. The Young Scientist of the Year title was conferred on Doctor of Geography Dorin Lozovanu for ethnic population research, and Doctor of History Ion Xenofontov for a monograph about the memories of the Moldovans who fought in Afghanistan. The special prize of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova “Discovery of 2010”, which was instituted by the Edelweiss Foundation, was handed over to academician Teodor Furdui by the organization's founder Vlad Plahotniuc, for the formulation of a new theory about sanocreatological medicine. “Academician Teodor Furdui showed once again that science does not have age limits. At the age of 75 and with over 50 years of service, he does not stop amazing us with new discoveries and achievements,” said Vlad Plahotniuc. Another 16 scientists were awarded by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, while 15 scientists received medals for participation in international exhibitions. “Science for Moldova represents a hope for development. In the civilized countries, the scientific community is the motric force of development that generates progress and helps identify solutions to problems,” said the Academy's president Gheorghe Duca.
