The Science Academy of Moldova (SAM) will create its own education institutions for tutoring young scientists. The Parliament approved on Friday, June 2, in first reading the draft law which allows SAM opening a lyceum and a university, introducing amendments to the present legislation. The chairman of SAM, Gheorge DUCA, declared in the Parliament that the problem of instructing high qualification specialists for the national economy is very important at the moment, if taking into consideration that in the last years essential deficiencies were registered in this area. Duca solicited the Parliament to introduce in the legislation provisions which would allow creating within the Academy of a lyceum and a university, were 200 gifted children will have the possibility to learn, and 500 youngsters selected through a contest. As a retort, several MPs from the opposition invoked the bad situation in the area of science in the Republic of Moldova, mentioning that opening such institutions will not improve the situation of the area. The MP Anatol Taranu stressed upon the high costs of opening such institutions, especially a university, mentioning that a better solution would be to distribute scientific researches to universities. The MP Igor Clipii alleged that this initiative could hide the intention to ensure a bonus to the salary for certain persons, affirming that the idea of the draft will not solve the problems of the science and must be rejected. The draft law was approved in first reading due to the vote of the communist MPs.
