School students on vacation from today

The students all over the country on May 30 marked the school year end and the beginning of the summer vacation. They were congratulated by parents, teachers and officials who took part in the school year end festivities, IPN reports.

In his message on this occasion, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the end of the school year is a new stage for all the generations. The path the young people will choose to follow and the welfare of the whole nation depend on the aptitudes of the Moldovan teachers. “School means assiduous work, joys and disappointments, nice and sadder moments. But they all represent our life,” said the Premier, wishing the students a pleasant and fruitful vacation.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca thanked the teaching staff for the work they did and wished them a nice vacation, while the students he wished a good road to the job of their choice and to maturity. “2014 is a special year because we are much closer to Europe owing to the free movement we enjoy. The young generation must enjoy a better life, but for this you should continue to learn well and very well. From now on, you must cope with competition not only at home, but also all over Europe,” he stated.

Head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has told IPN that the 2013-2014 academic year represented one more step taken by everyone in a bid to become better, more intelligent and more responsible. “Owing to the concerted effort of the students, teachers, managerial staff, the local authorities and the community of parents, the municipal school not only kept its prestige, but also increased it considerably, by hard work and by doing away with stereotypes and the old mentality,” she said.

In Moldova there are 1,374 secondary schools and lyceums. Of the over 350,000 graduates of this year, 39.4% finished primary education, 47.4% – secondary education, while 13.2% - high school education.
