The district/municipal Olympiads for general education institutions and zonal Olympiads for vocational education institutions start on February 27, as the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research announced on February 22.
In a press release, the Ministry says the Olympiads will take place with the physical presence of persons, inside examination centers, IPN reports.
The institution worked out instructions for preventing infection with COVID – 19 at school Olympiads in the subjects of study. The local education divisions and the vocational education institutions will be familiarized with these soon.
At the beginning of February, the Ministry of Education made an order to cancel the district, municipal, zonal and national school Olympiads due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the decision aroused dissatisfaction. In an open letter to the Ministry, parents said the national Olympiads serve as a reason for holding selection tests for national squads that will represent Moldova at international, European and Balkan Olympiads.
If the presence at most of the education institutions is of 100% and the incidence of confirmed cases of COVID-19 for the 10-19 age bracket is of 0.04%, the risks can be reduced to a minimum. With a well-thought-out plan, by strictly obeying the prevention and control measures, the Olympiads can be held as planned, stated the parents.
