Despite the actions taken by the Department for education, youth and sports to prevent and diminish the school abandon phenomenon, 38 pupils from Chisinau and the region have quit school. New mechanisms to keep the children in schools will be discussed at the Teacher’s Conference, which will take place on august 23. According to the Direction’s sources, 44 pupils have quit school in the 2005-2006 study year, and only 6 of them successfully recovered. Compared to the last 5 years, the school abandon phenomenon is decreasing, as in the 2000-2001, 137 children have quit school. The main reasons behind the school desertion remain the refusal of the parents to drive their children to school and the irresponsibility of the children whose parents are working abroad. This year’s annual Teacher’s Conference will have the motto “Quality in the study process – the basis of a modern Educational system”. The event will be held at the national Opera House, will commence at 10:00 and will have over 1180 guests: teachers, school principles and authorities from the Educational Department.
