Over 200 students from 18 educational institutions have become the finalists of the competition for “Additional Scholarships for Students from Underprivileged Families”, launched in April as part of a project of the same name by the Educational Advising Center. Today, on the International Students Day, the finalists were invited at a festivity in their honor, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Our intention in this project is to make an effective contribution to social inclusion, by offering additional scholarships to the youths who are disadvantaged in terms of access to education: the youths from families on low incomes, from families with numerous children, orphans or in custody, as well as youths coming from ethnic minorities, both from rural and urban areas”, said Angela Muset, the director of the Educational Advising Center. 312 students participated in the first edition of the competition, and 264 were selected. Of them, 64 received annual scholarships of $1,500, 106 – scholarships of $1,000 and other 94 – scholarships of $560. The winners are students in the 1st and 2nd years of study who have a great academic standing and whose families have an income per member of less than 1,110 lei. “This scholarship helped me a lot in my preparations for various contests and international tournaments”, said Stefan Rosca, a winner and also a member of the Moldovan national team for Paralympic wheelchair events. The “Additional Scholarships for Students from Underprivileged Families” Project also includes seminars and workshops for the scholarship winners. The “Additional Scholarships for Students from Underprivileged Families” Project is implemented by the Educational Advising Center, with the financial support of the Emergency Fund/Open Society Institute, and with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Protection and Family.
