The consumption of meat products with food additives, namely sausages and salamis, is strictly banned in the schools and kindergartens of Moldova. Thus, with the publication of this order in the Official Gazette on June 3, the given products are to be excluded from menus and to be replaced with meat of the highest quality and of the first category, IPN reports.

The National Public Health Center said the observance of the given provisions will be monitored by specialists of local public health centers who will identify and punish those who will ignore them.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Health in June will examine and approve the new menus in pre-school and school education institutions, which will include more seasonal fruit and a wider range of vegetables and food rich in proteins, with the fried foods being excluded. Representatives of the Ministry, specialists in child health, pediatricians and parents were involved in the elaboration of menus that will be assessed by an expert of the World Health Organization.

The decision to ban the consumption of meat products with food additives in schools and nursery schools was taken at the request of parents who made approaches to the Ministry of Health. Specialists in public health proved that the products from processed meat supplied to institutions for children do not meet the physical-chemical parameters and contain a high level of phosphates and food additives.
