The torrential rain in Chisinau on July 16 and 19 pulled out over 225 trees. Another 200 trees have been seriously damaged. Hundreds of houses in Chisinau and its suburbs have been flooded, while tens of houses remained without roofs, Info-Prim Neo reports. Yesterday’s rainstorm threw down a tree on Pushkin Street. The fallen tree damaged the trolleybus line. Albisoara and Aleea Garii have been again inundated. According to the acting mayor general of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu, the sewer pits have been opened in order to remove the water from the streets. Even so, a number of homes have been flooded. Several dozen people sought help from the Chisinau City Hall and the district heads’ offices. After a special commission assesses the losses, the affected persons will receive compensations from the reserve fund of the municipality of Chisinau, the official said. The fallen trees damaged cars, electric power networks and roofs. According to the head of the Green Spaces Association Eliferie Haruta, five crews, five derricks and a crane work to remove the consequences. The main streets have been practically cleaned. “More work is needed in districts and the yards of private homes. The people take the branches and other waste out on the street, but we have to check the trees so as to avoid accidents,” Haruta said. During three days, the services of the City Hall loaded up about 80 vehicles with branches and garbage. The Chisinau administration said the rain caused damage estimated at millions of lei. No casualties have been reported.
