{Info-Prim Neo invites to the theater. Starting with September 8, the agency will publish a series of news stories about the 2009-2010 theater season as seen by the Moldovan actors, with the prepared surprises.}
The Satiricus “I. L. Caragiale” Theater will premiere the play [“Caligula”] by Josef Toman, which is about the artist’s harsh fight for morality and against the power, on October 4. “This is the play that will open the season, but until then Satiricus will stage an important even on September 21, when director Constantin Cheianu celebrates the 50th birthday,” the theater’s director Sandu Grecu said.
On this occasion, there will be held a book launch and the reading of a new play titled “What Shall We Do with the Grandfather?” that will be put on by Satiricus under the name [“April 7 or What Shall We Do with the Grandfather?”]
“This theatrical season is crucial as we will revise the repertoire and prepare a program for 2010, when our theater turns 20,” Sandu Grecu said.
On October 2, the spectators are invited to the play [“Made in Moldova”] by Constantin Cheianu, while on October 3 to [“A stormy Night”] by Ion Luca Caragiale. There will be also staged Caragiale’s [Letters”], directed by Val Butnaru. “I hope the play will have its premiere by December. We care a lot about this play,” Grecu stressed.
The Satiricus troupe now works on the play [“I Came to Propose to You, Missis”] after two plays by A.Cehov. “This play will be probably presented in November. We will also put on A. Cehov’s [“Tern”].
The troupe will also continue its tour abroad that started in spring. “In October, we will be in Brussels and London. Afterward, we will go to Italy, in Padova and Reggio Emilia. We also plan a tour of Romania in February, which is very important for us. We intend to extend the tour next spring and travel also to Greece, Portugal and Germany. We will open the tour with the same “Made in Moldova” by Cheianu.”.
Sandu Grecu considers this season important also because new actors who graduated from the Academy of Arts were accepted into the theater’s troupe. “I mean the pupils of Anatol Durbala, Emil Gaju, Nelly Cozaru and others. These actors will play parts in new and old productions. We are now selecting the repertoire, which will include musical sketch, satire, comedy, farce, drama, tragedy, and even musicals, ballets, plastic shows for all the tastes. I think the 20 shows we will present this season will give a real satisfaction,” the director said.
He also said that the play [“Moliere’s Life”] by M. Bulgacov will be revived. Last year, it was not staged owing to technical problems in the theater. “Satiricus has performed this play since 1993 and always attracted many spectators. Prosper Merimee’ s [“Carmen”] will also be revived. It is produced in Romanian and Spanish. We hope to put it on from November. We performed it in Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and many other European towns. I think it will be a surprise for our spectators.”
Satiricus is printing a series of books about actors and will organize book launches. ”We prepare already the 14th volume about the great people’s actress Paulina Potanga. She is a pensioner now and lives in Braila. This volume will be launched at the opening of the season. The book was written by the well-known dramatist, writer, theater critic Pavel Proca, who is the literary secretary of the Balti-based “V. Alecsandri” Theater,” Sandu Grecu said.
“We will also hold the Prize Gala dedicated to politicians on December 19. I hope the prizes will be unusual and interesting as we had a year rich in political events, with many new faces, new politicians. So, come to Satiricus starting with October 2,” director Sandu Grecu invited.
