Sanziene celebrated in Palanca

The village of Palanca, Calarasi district, is hosting the Sanziene Holiday on July 14 (the Sanziene are good fairies in Romanian folklore). For 12 years now, the festival has been organized by the museum “Casa Parinteasca” (Parental Home) in cooperation the town hall. The festival will begin at the museum, where homely Sanziene traditions will be presented and then, until dawn, night traditions will be shown on the lake shore, Info-Prim Neo learned from project manager Tatiana Popa. The event will gather artisans specialized in weaving plant fibers. Several craftsmanship workshops will be organized. The festival will include theatrical representations like the wedding ritual, the chase of the Rusalii (bad fairies), undressing the tree, dressing the river (lake), jumping over the bonfire, lighting the ritual bonfire and purification fires near each hut, charming on water with the help of wreaths and a large hora (traditional round dance) at sunrise. Invited artistic ensembles are asked to present traditions related to the four elements (water, earth, air, fire), but everyone will what they are best at.
