A part of the Chisinau residents do not want to stop using garbage pipes in apartments buildings even if there are a lot of rats in the waste storage rooms. 30% of the 281 such rooms existing in the housing sector remain open. In the Housebuilding Cooperatives, all the waste storage rooms continue to be used, while in the Privatized Dwelling Owners Associations – almost all. The figures were presented by Petru Gontea, the head of the Public Amenities Division, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Gontea, the waste rooms in 14 apartment buildings in Rascani district cannot be closed because the garbage collecting trucks are too large and do not have access to the waste storage places. Special trucks that will unload garbage bins are to be purchased for these and other municipal buildings.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked the sanitation officials to convince the dwellers to close these rooms and use open waste collecting places that will be set up in the yard. “The dwellers should realize that the disorder in front of the buildings, the unpleasant smell and the rats will disappear if those rooms are closed,” the mayor said. He instructed the sanitation chief to make sure that the place near garbage bins is always clean.
The decision concerning the waste collection tax in the municipality of Chisinau is to be approved soon. There are persons that have not yet signed contracts with the municipal waste collection service, but throw the garbage in the bins installed in the yards of the apartment buildings, Dorin Chirtoaca said.
