The Ministry of Education and Research this year plans to repair or build sanitary facilities in 32 eductaional institutions at a cost of 29.3 million lei. Next year, such works will be performed in 118 institutions and a sum of 143 million lei will be allocated for the purpose, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated in a news conference.
According to the minister, emphasis will be placed on the institutions with an insufficient number of children and where there is at least a sewerage system in the locality. The other institutions will be left for 2025.
Dan Perciun referred also to the development partners’ support. This year UNICEF will contribute over 4.3 million lei for executing works in seven educational institutions. In total, 32 educational institutions will have their water and sanitation facilities renovated this year with state budget and UNICEF funds. For next year, the World Bank undertook to build facilities in 18 educational institutions with a budget of 58 million lei, while UNICEF pledged to support the renovation and equipment of 100 sanitary facilities, with the costs being estimated at 85 million lei.
The 100 institutions that will be financed by UNICEF will be identified until the end of this year as a result of an online application process. The Ministry of Education and Research constituted a coordination group that will deal with this.
