President Maia Sandu, who is running for a new term in office, claims that the country knows her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, as a former prosecutor general, during whose mandate several criminals were released and none of those guilty of major thefts was punished. The PAS candidate asked him, during Sunday's election debates, how he can convince citizens that he can be a better president than the former prosecutor general, IPN reports.

"Exemplary former prosecutor general," the Socialist Party presidential candidate replied. "Namely, during my time, people who were involved in the 'theft of the billion' and other transgressions were brought to criminal responsibility. And by way of confirmation, I draw your attention to the report made at your behest by the experts who were appointed by your decree on the establishment of the anti-corruption advisory committee to the President of the Republic of Moldova. This committee also concluded that during my term of office most cases of bank fraud have been sent to court", said Alexandr Stoianoglo.

As a remark, Maia Sandu said that the citizens have seen and felt the effects of Alexandr Stoianoglo's work as Prosecutor General. "And they see even today what you say about those who perpetrated the theft of the billion, and more than that, they continue to support you and make plans for the Republic of Moldova through you. And, by the way, the report that you mentioned says that you have exceeded your official duties. Why did you not take into account Platon's files which were ongoing and, thanks to your decision, he was able to leave the country and, only after he left the country, the prosecutors put him on international wanted persons. There are concrete things that citizens see and there are results that you have not delivered. This is what all citizens see," said Maia Sandu.

The PSRM candidate entered the second round of voting after obtaining the second-highest electoral score in the October 20 elections - 25.98%, after PAS candidate and current president Maia Sandu, who garnered 42.45% of the vote.
