Sambo received temporary recognition from the International Olympic Committee. “It is a dream that can come true. We received this news the year we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the sambo fight,” the President of the International Sambo Federation Vasily Shestakov was quoted by IPN as saying.
Sambo will be present at the 2019 Minsk European Games. A number of Moldovan sambo fighters will struggle to qualify for the competition that will take place in Belarus. World and European sambo champion Sergiu Oșlobanun is close to gaining qualification.
Sambo is a Russian martial arts and combat sport similar to judo.
