The sales of mobile telephony services in the first nine months of this year decreased by 106.4 million minutes or 2.3% compared with the corresponding period last year, show statistics of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology. The turnover on this segment of the market fell by over 74.6 million lei or 2.8% to about 2.639,7bn lei, IPN reports.
According to the Agency, the decline in voice traffic in mobile phone networks and in the total volume of sales of mobile telephony services are mainly due to the fact that more users prefer to communicate through the Internet, using mobile applications.
The decrease in the total volume of sales also derived from the decline in the sales reported by Orange Moldova. This company’s sales fell by 5.3% or 98.2m lei to 1.75bn lei. The sales of Moldtelecom rose by 3.4% or 3.4 million lei to over 104.9m lei, while of Moldcell – by 2.7% to about 779.6m lei.
At the end of this September, the three mobile phone carriers had the following market shares: Orange Moldova – 66.5%, Moldcell – 29.5%, while Moldtelecom – 4%.
