Salaries of suburban teachers could be raised too

The decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to raise teachers’ salaries by 20% does not apply to the teachers working in suburbs. At the CMC meeting on February 21, a number of councilors expressed their indignation at this fact, saying that they voted to increase the salaries of all the teachers from the municipality, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CMC chairman Mihai Ghimpu said that the salaries of the suburban teachers should be raised by the local authorities of these settlements. According to Ghimpu, the financial possibilities of the budgets of the suburban settlements are now being examined. If it turns out that they do not include additional resources to raise the salaries, the expenses could be covered from the municipal budget. Also, CMC will consider covering the costs of feeding the children going to suburban schools. The councillors calculated that the 20% rise in the salaries of suburban teachers will cost the municipal budget 6.7 million lei, in addition to the 51 million lei planned for raising Chisinau teachers’ salaries.
