Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița asked the administration boards of public institutions with financial autonomy not to raise the salaries of employees for now. A Government decision of 2002 on pay grades in the public institutions with financial autonomy, which allows for pay raises, will be reviewed, IPN reports.

The Premier said there are regulations that tie the salaries in particular public institutions with financial autonomy to the minimum salary that was raised to 3,500 lei in the private sector. They way in which these salaries are calculated should be reviewed. “I consider this Government decision leads to an unjustified pay raise in particular public institutions, if we compare the possibilities in the private sector and in the public sector,” explained the official.

Natalia Gavrilița instructed the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Finance to together review that Government decision.

In this connection, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari said the Ministry for a period has worked on the unification of the minimum salary in the country so that there is one minimum salary and not two different minimum salaries in the public and private sectors.
