The salaries of the people working in the subdivisions of the Chisinau City Hall will be reviewed and will be possibly decreased. A relevant ordinance was issued by the Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca on December 3.
The mayor said that in the City Hall there are “artificial” posts such as deputy first director of the Electric Transport Division.
Attending the meeting of the City Hall on Monday, Veaceslav Vascu, the new deputy first director of the Division, on the mayor’s request revealed that he has a salary of 8,700 lei, while the director general of 9,600 lei. He informed that the post of deputy first director was established by order of the director general because the situation in electric transport worsened and there appeared disagreements among the Division’s employees, created by the former management, and because it was necessary to make modifications in the staff department.
The Mayor General recommended Veaceslav Vascu to table his resignation and asked him to tell Victor Martaniuc, who is now on a sick leave, that when he gets better they will seriously discuss the problems related to the activity of the Division.
Dorin Chirtoaca told the reporters that he earns about 4,300 lei monthly and his salary varies each month depending on certain calculations.
The mayor said that the salaries in all the City Hall’s subdivisions will be reassessed, stressing that the situation in the Electric Transport Division is out of the ordinary. According to Chirtoaca, by a regulation Victor Martaniuc fixed for himself a pension of 75% of the director’s salary plus a series of benefits such as the use of transport for personal needs at the Division’s expense after retirement, the possibility of going to health resorts. “These abuses have roots of several years and I am trying to uproot them,” the mayor said.
He also said that there is a big difference between the salaries of the functionaries of the City Hall and of the district head’s offices, of 800 – 1,500 de lei, and in the salaries paid in the self-directed enterprises subordinated to the City Hall. He said that the large salaries are not justified because the activities in these institutions are not of the highest grade and all the problems remain unsolved because, as they say, there are no financial resources and the tariffs are inadequate.
“We must have large salaries in the country. But they must be fixed on the basis of a common conception and not as it is done at present – salaries similar to the ones paid in the European Union for some persons and salaries below the minimum subsistence level for other persons,” the mayor said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
