Twenty families that raise children with special educational needs recited poems and sang carols around the Christmas tree on the occasion of the feast of Saint Nicholas celebrated on December 19. The event was organized by the Tony Hawks Center in Chisinau, while the British charity Child Aid prepared food parcels, candies and books for children, IPN reports.
Attending the event, British Ambassador in Chisinau Lucy Joyce said it is very important to stage charity activities before the Christmas holidays so that everyone celebrates with a full heart. “I usually offer presents to friends and relatives, but also to people whom I don’t know, namely to highlight the spirit of Christmas,” stated the diplomat.
Tony Hawks Center director Diana Covalciuc said the center appeared disinterestedly, out of the need to share generosity and has provided free recovery services for children with SENs for 17 years already. The charity events are designed to educate society so that it is more attentive and kind towards people who need assistance.
“The center is of great aid for our children. We are very satisfied as we made considerable progress. Owing to the center, we this year went to the first grade and it is very good that the children with disabilities are now included in community schools,” stated parent Svetlana Lupu.
Olga Esanu has attended the Tony Hawks Center together with her son for three years and her child likes a lot the activities staged here, especially the music classes. “The children need such centers to develop. In kindergartens they do not get this love. There is an individual attitude to each child here,” she said.
The Tony Hawks Center is annually attended by about 600 children who suffer from different diseases. This is supported by writer Tony Hawks, Child Aid, individual donors and also by the National Health Insurance Company.
