“Russkii Mir” foundation opens local offices in Transnistria

A Russian Culture Center will be opened at the State University “Taras Shevchenko” in Tiraspol. Reportedly, among the first guests of the center will be the leader of the breakaway Transnistrian republic Igor Smirnov, Russia's Ambassador to Moldova Valery Kuzimin and representatives of the administration of “Russkii Mir” (“Russian World”) foundation. Similar centers are planned to be opened all over Transnistria,” Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. Stepan Beril, the rector of State University “Taras Shevchenko”, said that they expect honorable guests from Moscow, among whom Veaceslav Nikonov, who heads this foundation created under the President of Russia. “Russkii Mir” intends to set up a number of mini-libraries with Russian methodological and artistic literature and multimedia products for the Russian language and contemporary Russia's culture and history subjects in Transnistria. Stepan Beril said that these centers will also support the Russian teaching schools. Significant investment will be made in implementing information technology so as to contribute to a closer cooperation between the universities and the exchange of information, including by holding Internet conferences, Beril said “Russkii Mir” was founded by the President of Russia in 2007. The centers opened by the foundation aim to promote, preserve and develop the Russian language in CIS countries, Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
