A military man of the peacekeeping forces serving in the security zone of Moldova’s Transnistrian region shot dead a local driving a car in the morning of January 1, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Reintegration Office.
According to the communiqué, the driver repeatedly ignored the peacekeepers’ request to stop, after he crashed the car into the control barrier and the traffic sign “Stop”. Therefore, the chief of a peacekeeping post fired several warning shots from his gun and then at the car. Consequently, the driver was seriously injured and was rushed to the Emergency Hospital in Chisinau. The operative investigation group of the Dubasari Police Commissariat, the district prosecutor and representatives of the Joint Control Commission and the Unified Military Command traveled to the scene to examine the circumstances of the incident.
Afterward, the press reported that the injured man died in the hospital several hours later, while the military man who shot was a Russian officer of the peacekeeping forces. The same day, locals protested at the place of the accident and announced they will continue to protest on January 2.
