The Moldovan authorities’ request to include the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers in the agenda of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly will not contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in the 5+2 format, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasili Nebenzia said, commenting on the given request, IPN reports.

According to the Transnistrian press, the Russian diplomat said the UN General Assembly is not an appropriate platform for discussing this problem. He described the Moldovan side’s decision as not very friendly and rather unexpected, noting that Russia hasn’t been warned about this beforehand.

“Surely, this thing will not contribute to keeping the peaceful conflict settlement process that was set long ago through the 5+2 format. We will openly say this to our Moldovan colleagues,” stated Nebenzia, underlining that such a situation points to misunderstandings inside the senior administration.

In the same connection, the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky told the local press that the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Transnistrian region is a first step towards war as Chisinau could use its power. He voiced hope that the Russian Federation will ensure protection.
