Russian businessman Andrei Goncharenko became the new beneficiary of Komaksavia Airport Invest Ltd that owns 95% of Avia-Invest after NR Investment Limited conceded control over the company, IPN reports.
“During the last few years, the airport, being managed by Avia-Invest, developed dynamically. It’s clear that the further development of the airport as a regional transport center between Europe and Asia depends on the volume and stability of the attracted investments. Among my priorities is the building of a runway for large aircraft and of a new terminal that will be the most modern one in the region,” stated Andrei Goncharenko, being quoted in a press release of Avia-Invest, which manages the Chisinau International Airport.
“The attraction of investments for fulfilling these plans is my key task as the new stakeholder. We have a lot of work to do. Our goal is to increase the annual number of passengers to 5 million during the immediate period.”
The press release said Andrei Goncharenko is a former top manager of Gazprom with business interests in different areas.
The decision made by NR Investments Ltd was commented on by President Igor Dodon. He said this was taken because of Moldovan authorities’ plans to open more airports in the country. “This means we are destroying the monopoly that is now held by international aviation services. This placed someone on alert,” he told the press.
As to the new owner, President Dodon said he does not know about this but will collect information and will provide details later.
