All the letters sent to the Russian Embassy, asking releasing Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac, who are accused of spying for Moldova, are resent to the Transnistrian authorities, Ambassador Valery Kuzmin said in a press briefing on June 9. “The Embassy of Russia cannot intervene. It should be cleat that there are certain international diplomatic rules,” Valery Kuzmin said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The ambassador advised Ilie Cazac's parents to abandon the idea of going on hunger strike in front of the Embassy of Russia. “The Moldovan Transnistrian Republic is an unrecognized state. But is has state bodies and one should not wait for somebody from outside to come and do justice,” Valery Kuzmin said. The statements come after the parents of Ilie Cazac – an employee of the Bender Tax Inspectorate who was arrested on March 19 – announced they will go on hunger strike in front of the Russian Embassy if nothing is done to set their son free. Valery Kuzmin also said the relatives have the right to know how the two persons feel and in what conditions they are held. Journalist Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac face up to 20 years in jail.
