Russia provides assistance to Transnistria these days

Russia's State Duma recommends the government to release humanitarian assistance to population of Transnistria, according to Russian press reports. During Monday meeting, 20 March, with the chairman of government, Boris Grazlov, the leader of the Supreme Soviet of Tiraspol, Yevgeny Shevchuk addressed the Russian Federation to allot humanitarian assistance to population of the region „connected to blockade regime of Transnistria imposed by authorities of Chisinau and Kiev.” Andrey Kokoshin, chairman of State Governmental Committee for relations with CIS, announced about this. This request was supported as well by the Russian government, Kokoshin mentioned. He also said that Transnistria need goods as drugs, equipment for medical institutions, children food, etc. all these goods the government will allot to Transnistriei as emergency, Kokoshin noted. According to him, the humanitarian assistance will arrive in Transnistria next days. Previously the ambassador of special mission of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Valery Kenyaikin, said that the Russian Federation would assist Transnistria and take decisions regarding the financial support to the latter one. Moscow noted that it would help Transnistria motivating that here it could happen a humanitarian crisis, after implementing by Ukraine, staring on 3 March, of the new customs regulation at Moldovan-Ukrainian border. Moscow as well as Tiraspol considers these actions as „economic blockade of Transnistria”. At the same time, the West supports the actions of Kiev and Chisinau. On Thursday, 16 March, the European Parliament called Russian Federation, by a resolution regarding the situation of Transnistria, to stop immediately its support to regime of Tiraspol, to reaffirm its engagement towards the territorial integrity of Moldova and to withdraw its troops and military ammunition from Moldova unconditionally.
