The Government of the Russian Federation decided to extend the preferential export regime for five categories of Moldovan goods that has been applied since January 1 until July 1, 2019, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying.
According to the presidential press service, the goods that could be further exported duty-free include the fresh vegetables, apples, plums and quinces, apricots, cherries and sour cherries and also cans and wines.
“I want to express my gratitude to our Russian partners and my confidence that the Moldovan-Russian commercial-economic relations will be given a new impetus and this will enable to significantly increase the volume of trade,” stated Igor Dodon.
He reminded that the export duties on particular categories of Moldovan goods were abolished as of January 1, 2019 following the agreements he reached with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin last October.
Igor Dodon said that owing to this move, Moldova’s vegetable exports in January – May this year rose from 360 tonnes to about 2,370 tonnes or 6.6 times. Apple exports grew from 100,000 tonnes to about 167,000 tonnes or by 67%. Can exports increased 1.5 times, from 1,275 tonnes to about 1,940 tonnes. Wine exports saw a 52% rise, from 5 million liters to almost 7.7 million liters.
