Russia has always opposed to politicizing the frozen conflicts of the ex-soviet space and involving the UN General Assembly in their settlement, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Kalmakin declared. According to him, Russia is still positive that this step will be counterproductive, and it aims at destroying the existent settlement formats of the Transnistrian conflict, Nagorno Karabach, Abkhazia, and South Osetia where Russia actively participates in. Kalamakin also declared that the settlement of these conflicts will contribute more to a productive activity within the framework of the existent negotiation mechanisms, than attracting the UN General Assembly. The General Assembly of UN adopted the decision to include in the work agenda of the 61st session an additional item related to the long term conflicts in GUAM space and involving them for international peace, security and development. This decision was made at the request of GUAM member states. In order to introduce this issue, the representatives of 16 states voted in its favor and 15 – against, and 65 abstained from voting.
