Ruslan Popov’s wife accused of complicity in unjust enrichment, suspended from post

The wife of the former deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov was suspended from the post of prosecutor by the Superior Council of Prosecutors. Iulia Popov is accused of complicity in unjust enrichment and filing of a fraudulent tax return, IPN reports.

The request to suspend her from post was made by acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu. This was examined behind closed doors without specifying the reasons for such a request. As a result, the Superior Council of Prosecutors ordered to suspend Iulia Popov from the post of prosecutor.

Contacted by IPN for details, the press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office Mariana Cherpec said the acting prosecutor general asked for the suspension because Iulia Popov was charged with complicity in unjust enrichment and filing of a fraudulent return.

Earlier, Ruslan Popov was dismissed as deputy prosecutor general also at the request of acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu. Ruslan Popov is accused of unjust enrichment and filing of a fraudulent tax return. The case was recently sent to court.
