The suspended deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov, who is investigated for unjust enrichment, was placed under house arrest for a 30-day period. The decision was taken by the Ciocana Court, IPN reports.

Inside the court, Ruslan Popov stated for the press that the decision is illegal. He asked to fully reject the prosecutor’s request as unfounded and abusive and not to order any preventive measure.

“The interests of a number of interest groups, both criminal and political, coincided and these decided to get rid of Stoianoglo (suspended prosecutor general, e.n.) and of Popov and other prosecutors so that they do not meet with problems resulting from the ongoing investigations. This is the only explanation possible,” stated Ruslan Popov.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that Ruslan Popov is investigated for unjust enrichment. On October 9, he was remanded in custody for 72 hours, while on October 11 the prosecution asked for preventive detention for him.
