The New Historic Option Party in the competition for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau will be represented by Ruslan Popa. According to the candidate, traffic congestion is the most serious problem of the city and he has swift solutions to deal with this problem. The introduction of pay parking in central Chisinau is one of these solutions.
“Given that our slogan remains “Solidarity and Progress”, we identified and fielded Mister Ruslan Popa as a candidate for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau on behalf of the New Historic Option Party. Ruslan Popa has a rich biography. He is a person who studies in detail all the moments that can ensure the development of the municipality of Chisinau,” the party’s chairwoman Svetlana Chesari stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.
According to her, the New Historic Option Party is for development and this process necessitates nonpolitical, technocratic approaches.
Ruslan Popa said that he has over 15 years’ managerial experience, experience in finance and human resources. He managed a number of international companies. “The mayor is a manager. That’s why I’m running. We had a lot of politicians in the post of mayor general and we therefore experienced a number of problems that remained unsolved for years, even tens of years. I decided to compete in the mayoral election because many things in the capital city are done superficially and no one solves the real problems,” stated the candidate.
After being engaged in corporate activities, he decided to work as a taxi driver as this is his passion. This way he combines the useful with the pleasant and has the possibility of talking to locals. “In this (electoral) campaign, I come as a taxi driver, a taxi driver-mayor, being supported by my mates,” said Ruslan Popa.
According to the candidate, the problem of traffic jams can be solved in 24 hours. Taxes should be introduced for car parking on the central streets of Chisinau, as in other large European cities. Today, tens of cars come to the center of Chisinau and cause congestion.
“Instead of paying 500-600 lei a day, for example, if one travels by personal car downtown, one can pay 100-150 lei for taxi rides to and from or the fare for trolleybus, bus, minibus trips. Congestion will be this way avoided and we will have more pay parking lots where to leave the car for half an hour or an hour. The revenue from parking will be used to repair the roads,” said Ruslan Popa.
“Vote for a taxi driver-mayor as I will be next to you each day. We will be able to meet and discuss daily. I think this is very important for a mayor who wants to solve the problems, not to build a political career.”
