The Supreme Court of Justice overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal and excluded on Friday, October 11, 2019, the independent candidate Ruslan Codreanu from the electoral race for the position of mayor of Chișinău municipality. The information was provided to IPN by Ruslan Codreanu, who said that several colleagues urged him to organize protests against his exclusion.
In his Facebook page post, Ruslan Codreanu wrote that the CSJ meeting at which the magistrates ruled in favor of the Central Electoral Commission took place behind closed doors. "Changes are felt in Moldova! Administrative resources have been used. Uncomfortable candidates have been eliminated through the courts. The will of 797 people was disregarded”, wrote Ruslan Codreanu.
On September 26, Chișinău Municipal Electoral District Council refused to register Ruslan Codreanu in the electoral race for the capital's mayoralty. With 6 votes in favor and 4 abstentions, CECEC members invalidated 1200 out of the 10454 signatures presented by Ruslan Codreanu.
On October 9, the Court of Appeal cancelled the CECEC ruling in regard to Codreanu. Ruslan Codreanu then submitted to the Chișinău Municipal Electoral District the Court of Appeal's disposition and requested to be registered in the electoral race, however, the CECEC challenged the CA decision at the CSJ.
