The parliamentary factions of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) make a serious mistake when they try to limit the right to form a faction on the left-wing section. Political analyst Anatol Taranu has told Info-Prim Neo that this way the AEI helps the Communists to keep their monopoly on the parliamentary segment. “Sincerely speaking, I do not understand why the alliance makes such a great mistake. It is an initiative that definitely favors the Communists and disfavors the alliance and democracy in Moldova in general as it does not allow creating an opponent and a rival to the Communists on the left-wing segment,” said the analyst. According to him, the formation of the announced faction means nothing but breaking the Communist Party’s monopoly on the left-wing segment in Parliament. Seven lawmakers who left the Communist faction in different periods of time on October 12 announced that they intend to form a parliamentary faction. The same day, the legislative body passed in the first reading a bill put forward by the Liberal Party, which allows the MPs to set up parliamentary factions only within the first ten days of the constitution of Parliament. The Liberals asked that the project be adopted in the second reading too, but the Liberal-Democratic faction said that they need time to study it. As to the legality of creating the faction of independent MPs, Speaker Marian Lupu said that he does not have an answer and is to consult the Parliament’s jurists about this matter.
