Routes with over 20 units of transport running on them were proposed for piloting the e-ticketing system intended for the public transport of Chisinau. Contacted by IPN for details, Chisinau Electric Transport Company director Dorin Chernyi said such routes as No. 22, 10, 4, 8, 12 and 24 were proposed for the testing. The company that will perform the testing will choose two of them. The technological process only has been decided by now, at a common meeting.

Dorin Chernyi noted the trolleybus ticket conductors will start to be trained how to use the electronic ticketing equipment in a week and the process will last for about two weeks.

The municipal authors aim to start testing the e-ticketing system in March. The fare will be the same – 2 lei. On the selected routes, the passengers will be able to either buy a ticket or to pay for a trip by bank card. They will be helped by conductors.

The testing will last for at most six months and will be managed by MasterCard and VISA that will cover all the related costs.

It has been ten years since the municipal authorities announced the intention to introduce e-ticketing in public transport. In 2010, the Chisinau City Hall said the citizens of the capital city will pay for trips by public transport by an electronic card starting with 2012. Later the local authorities announced delays and new deadlines.
