In Transnistria, the Moldovan (Romanian) language is on the verge of extinction as the teachers do not receive modern textbooks and books and the young people know it worse. The opinion was stated in a roundtable meeting that brought together teachers from Transnistria, Gagauzia and Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting the Comrat-based Institute for Democracy.

The teachers said that as part of a program of sub-grants of the Institute for Democracy, they could attend useful training courses on modern methods of teaching Romanian and voiced hope they will be able to become involved in more such formation programs in the future. In the same event, the teachers discussed their experience in human rights education, spoke about their accomplishments and difficulties and learned about the achievements of their colleagues from the other side of the Nistru River.

The same day, the participants from Transnistria and Chisinau visited the D.Celengir Lyceum in Avdarma village. The lyceum was transformed from a school close to ruin into the best outfitted lyceum of the county. Almost all the classrooms there were outfitted with computers, interactive whiteboards and documentation room. The participants could see the how the classrooms were outfitted, the sports grounds, the photo studio for teaching picture taking to children, visual arts halls and an exhibition of wooden and other works made by children.

As the representative of the Institute for Democracy said, the roundtable meeting is important also because it is common: the teachers know each other, share information about the striation ion their region with colleagues and exchange ideas and other useful information.

The event is financed by the European Union and is co-financed by the Embassy of the Netherlands. The roundtable meeting was held at the General Education Division of Gagauzia and was aimed at building mutual confidence between teachers from both sides of the Nistru, establishing contacts and ensuring the exchange of experience between them.
