The support provided by Romania and other external partners to Moldova is intended for its people, not for a particular government, said the director of the Center of East European Studies of Bucharest Raluca Raducanu. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, she stated that Romania will now provide financial support if Moldova does not do particular reforms and the hypothesis that Romania supports the oligarchic regime cannot be thus confirmed, IPN reports.

According to Raluca Raducan, the ruling parties are not very popular with the people because the parties that have governed since 2009 didn’t meet the people’s expectations. “In 2009 Moldova enjoyed a great window of opportunity in its relations with the European Union. If a set of reforms had been implemented afterward, the economic, social and political situation in Moldova would have been different now,” she stated.

The Center’s director also said that when the ruling parties work out policies for themselves, it is normal for the people to reorient to other variants. New parties appeared meanwhile such as the Political Party “Our Party”, the Party of Socialists, the Action and Solidary Party and the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”.

Raluca Raducan noted that a state where reforms are not done and the fight against corruption is simulated cannot become part of the EU. Also, a country cannot enter the EU only based on pro-European slogans of its political class. “Building the European Union here, in Chisinau, is the safest way of getting there and this can be done only by implementing reforms,” she stated.

The director of the Center of East European Studies also said that Moldova has an Association Agreement with the EU and a plan of action and, when this plan is implemented, the road to the EU will be open. Otherwise, Moldova will not move on, but will go back.
