The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Parliament of Romania adopted a declaration of support for the new Government of Moldova headed by Maia Sandu and on the firm commitment towards Moldova’s European course by a majority of votes, IPN reports.
Romania’s Parliament encourages the whole political class of Moldova to sign a statement on the firm commitment towards an irreversible European course of the country and the reforms needed for achieving this goal. It urges the political forces in Chisinau, those from the government and those from the opposition, to ensure parliamentary and political cooperation in accordance with the main rules of democracy.
The document says that Romania reiterates and strengthens its support for Moldova’s European aspirations and expects the Government of Moldova to make a firm commitment for continuing the European course by implementing the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU that can fortify and develop the democratic construct in Chisinau and can bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the EU.
The same document requests the Government of Romania to step up the efforts to fully restore the cooperation relations between Moldova and the EU and to mobilize all the support measures, including the financial ones, for assisting the Moldovan Government in the reform process and in implementing the political and association agenda with the EU.
By this document, Romania’s Parliament pledges to intensify the interparliamentary dialogue in support of Moldova’s European agenda.
The Government led by Maia Sandu was formed on June 8. On June 27, Maia Sandu announced that her first official visit as prime minister will be made to Bucharest on July 2, at the invitation of the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.
